Swapping: Blue Lagoon Style (Lots of pictures!)

First off, what is a swap? A group decides on a theme, square size and how many squares to make. The swaps I have participated in are: Juliet- black, white and hot pink or red 12-inch squares, Forrest- 12-inch squares made up of of browns and greens, South Seas- light blue and greens in 9-inch squares, and Granny McPhee- swapped 100 (yes ONE HUNDRED!) granny squares. We then exchange those squares with the others in the group. I am then able to make one (or more) blanket(s) from people from all over Canada and theĀ  U.S.

My current swap is called Blue Lagoon. The colors used- all Vanna’s Choice yarn- are Sapphire, Colonial Blue, Lime, Silver Blue, Dusty Blue and Aqua. Between 14 of us, we agreed to make 20 9-inch squares.

Are you ready for the pictures?? Here are the squares I made to send to my friends! The pictures are linked to the pattern. About half of them came from Jan Eaton’s 200 Crochet Blocks book and the rest are free online patterns.

I’m no fool!

I have been told a time or two that I can crochet pretty quickly. Time to put that to the test. On April 1st I will be spending some time at a cozy little spot in Arlington whipping up as many hats as I can. What am I going to do with all these hats? I will be donating them to the Providence hospital to give to their cancer patients. I will be making the hats in toddler sizes.

How can you make a difference? There are two ways. With a $50 direct donation to Relay For Life (link to follow) I will donate 5 hats under your name in a color of your choosing. The other option is to pledge a dollar amount to how many hats I make in my sit in. If you pledge $1 per hat and I make 10 hats, you would be committing to a $10 donation.

Please email shelbysheasstitches@gmail.com if you would like to be updated about the time, location and all the awesome fundraisingness!
